What to do in Nha Trang and Da Lat: Itinerary in 6 days 5 nights

Nha Trang and Da Lat are only 134 – 140 km apart, connected by the scenic National Highway 27C over Khanh Le Pass. The journey from Nha Trang to Da Lat takes around 3.5 – 4.5 hours, making it easy to visit both destinations in a single itinerary.

The contrast between the two cities is what makes the trip so memorable. You can spend the morning swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing on Nha Trang’s sunny beaches. A few hours later, you’ll arrive in Da Lat, where cool mountain air, pine forests, and misty hills create a completely different atmosphere. It’s one of the few places in Vietnam where you can experience tropical beaches and a temperate highland climate on the same day.

If you have 5 to 7 days in Central Vietnam, this is one of the most rewarding travel combinations you can make.

Although only a few hours apart, Nha Trang and Da Lat have very different climates.

Nha Trang enjoys sunny weather and calm seas typically from March to September, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling and island hopping.
Da Lat, thanks to its altitude of around 1,500 metres, stays cool throughout the year. The most pleasant months for outdoor activities are November to April, while the rainy season from May to October usually brings short afternoon showers and some all-day rain.

If you’re planning to visit both destinations in one trip, April and May offer one of the best balances. Nha Trang is still enjoying excellent beach weather, while Da Lat remains lush, cool and comfortable despite the occasional shower.

Day 1: Arrival in Nha Trang – City Exploration

Your Vietnam adventure begins in Nha Trang, one of the country’s most popular beach cities. After landing at Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), it’s about a 35 km drive to the city center.

Once you’ve arrived in Nha Trang, you can head straight to the beach. Or better, ease into the city with a bowl of bun ca or bun sua, two local noodle soups that perfectly capture Nha Trang’s seafood culture.

In the afternoon, trade the beach for a little history. Among the top things to see in Nha Trang, Ponagar Cham Towers, built between the 8th and 13th centuries, offer one of the best places to learn about the ancient Cham civilization.

A short drive away, the National Oceanographic Museum gives you a completely different perspective of the region. Home to more than 20,000 marine specimens representing over 4,000 species, it’s an easy stop if you’re curious about the incredible biodiversity of Vietnam’s coastline.

As evening arrives, it’s time to slow down. Walk along Tran Phu Beach, stop by April 2 Square and the illuminated Tram Huong Tower, then browse the nearby night market. End your first day with fresh grilled seafood while listening to the sound of the waves.

Day 2: Nha Trang Island Hopping and Mineral Mud Bath

Today is all about enjoying the sea that made Nha Trang famous.

Start the morning with an island-hopping tour to Hon Mun Marine Protected Area. The water here is some of the clearest in Vietnam, making it ideal for snorkeling or scuba diving. Colorful coral reefs, tropical fish, and calm conditions make this one of the country’s best underwater experiences, even if you’ve never snorkeled before.

After an active morning, swap saltwater for something uniquely Nha Trang: a natural mineral mud bath. It might sound unusual at first, but it’s one of the city’s signature experiences. Rich in natural minerals, the warm mud is believed to help relax muscles, soften skin, and relieve stress after a day in the sun.

You can choose between I-Resort, known for its peaceful garden setting and hot mineral pools, or Hon Tam Mud Bath, home to Vietnam’s largest island mud bathing complex with beautiful views across the bay.

When the sun goes down, the city comes alive again. Take another walk along the beachfront or head up to Skylight Rooftop for cocktails, music, and panoramic views over Nha Trang’s sparkling coastline.

Day 5: Da Lat – Cloud Hunting and Local Culture

Before sunrise, make your way to Cau Dat Tea Hills, around 25 km from the city. As daylight slowly appears, low clouds often drift across the rolling tea plantations, creating the famous “sea of clouds” that photographers travel here to capture. Even if the clouds don’t appear, the sunrise over the green hills is well worth the early start.

Back in the city, visit Da Lat Railway Station, one of the oldest railway stations in Indochina. Built in 1938, its distinctive roof was inspired by Lang Biang Mountain, while the restored steam locomotive offers a glimpse into Vietnam’s colonial history.

Next, continue to Linh Phuoc Pagoda, often called the “Broken Glass Pagoda.” Almost every part of the temple is decorated with colorful pieces of ceramic and glass. Highlights include the 49-meter dragon sculpture, made from thousands of beer bottles, and the impressive flower-covered statue of the Goddess of Mercy.

Slow the pace again in the afternoon with one of Da Lat’s greatest pleasures. It is café culture. Find a seat overlooking the pine forests or greenhouse valleys, order a locally grown Arabica coffee, and simply enjoy the slower rhythm of the city.

For dinner, don’t miss lẩu gà lá é, Da Lat’s signature chicken hotpot. The fragrant herb gives the broth a fresh, peppery flavor that’s especially comforting on a cool mountain evening.

Day 6: Da Lat – Departure

Before leaving, spend a relaxed morning around Lam Vien Square, one of Da Lat’s best-known landmarks. Sitting beside Xuan Huong Lake, the square is instantly recognizable thanks to its giant glass artichoke bud and wild sunflower-inspired building. It’s a great place for one last walk and a few final photos.

If you still have room in your luggage, this is the perfect time to shop for local specialties. Da Lat is famous for its coffee, artichoke tea, dried persimmons, strawberry jam, and other locally produced treats that make easy souvenirs to take home.

Then it’s time to say goodbye to Da Lat. Head to Lien Khuong Airport for your flight or Da Lat Bus Station if you’re continuing overland to your next destination.
